Nestlé and Alps Commercial unveil massive Cocoa Works site development plan

Alps Commercial  launched the scheme to developers and investors at The Royal York Hotel  today 6th July 2011.

Peter Alcock, chief executive of Alps, said the Cocoa Works, in the Conservation Area between Haxby Road and Wigginton Road, had the right location, heritage and prestige.

He said: “This is a truly rare and exciting development opportunity in one of the UK’s best loved cities. We have already had a lot of interest in this site and we believe this is an exemplar project for the city and the region.

 Situated a mile north of York City Centre, The Cocoa Works is a 16.75 acre site of mixed-use development opportunities. Set between Haxby Road and Wigginton Road it is served by an excellent public transport network. The site abuts the southern boundary of Nestle's York Campus. Most of the site has been cleared ready for development. One of the original 6 storey manufacturing buildings has been retained, together with the listed Rowntree Memorial Library. There is detailed consent in respect of the retained buildings for retail, offices, live/work units, apartments & student accommodation and outline consent over the remainder of the site for family housing, an assisted living development, 60,000 sq ft of offices & a community building.
